THE VELVET ROPE
- This was (past tense) the most famous music biz insiders' forum. When you are applying for an account, mention me Andrew as your reference. I have nothing to do with running that BBS. Julie Gordon runs the website. The mean users flame anyone who posts about anything they like and care about, just to keep their psuedo-names visible. The majority of users "lurk"; they read the posts but are afraid to post anything in fear of getting flamed by the loser-clan that seems to have the privilege of posting anything they want without any reprisals. This BBS is now just a bash-fest where mean users bash others. Topic threads quickly degrade into back and forth one-upmanship contests. The BBS is not fair, just like the music biz. But if you keep your own integrity and speak your mind anyway, you'll find users who will agree with what you say and they will email you in private. If you are in a rock band, post your upcoming shows in the section "The Gig Guide." If you really care about music, check the above links for "Rocky Road". If you really want to talk about the music industry, go to the Tomos and Starpolish message forums.
